JALOPNIK: The Volvette V06 Is A 600 Horsepower Volvo Corvette Mashup Mutant
Take one totally trashed 2013 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport. Take one, frankly rather nice, 1963 Volvo 122S Amazon. Now get some sort of mad wizard machine like in Jeff Goldblum’s horrifically disgusting The Fly. What you get is this SEMA special, known as the V06.
This gold SEMA car in particular was built by Jeff Allen, formerly of The Car Chasers on CNBC, has been building this Volvette mashup for a while now. It started with a regular Volvo, and a pretty bashed-up Corvette, as you can see in the video of Allen originally finding the Corvette at Copart:
While the build doesn’t appear to be too complex on paper, it definitely looks like a project to mate the body from a Volvo onto the chassis and drivetrain of a Corvette. And, just for good measure, they had Lingenfelter built up the LS3 motor to a solid 600 horsepower.
Possibly the best part, though, is this car’s intended purpose. Oh, don’t get me wrong, it can probably be used for anything from drifting to drag racing, but that’s not why it was built. It was built, fundamentally, for charity.
After a little bit of sitting around and looking pretty, the V06 will be auctioned off, with all proceeds benefiting the SEMA Memorial Scholarship Fund, “which offers financial assistance to students pursuing an automotive career.”
And that’s something we can really get into.
